1 Any good venues in Ypsilanti? on Sun Aug 26, 2012 7:07 pm

Been doing some research, and I haven't really seen much for places to play out in Ypsilanti. Anybody know cool spots out there?

Crossroads bar is cool. It seems to always get packed on show nights because they only have bands about once a week, and is a pretty cheap bar. Woodruff's is also cool, but the turnout is usually not as good there. Aarons email is woodruffsbooking@gmail.com

you can tell him that casey told you to contact him for a faster response.

Hit up Aaron at Woodruff's like Casey said. Only place in Ypsi worth playing and is fun. Crossroads is fun, but the owner likes to double book some shitfuck DJ with an iPod and love for dubstep at the same time as your show. Also, if you ever need a local, hit up my band, Slaves to the Pavement, or the dudes in SNAFU. We can get a good crowd in there.

Muggs closed down quite a few years back. At least, it's been closed since I moved out here 6 years ago. The Elbow Room used to be a pretty rad place to play but that closed down also. Woodruff's is currently run by one of the dudes who used to run Elbow, and the stage and sound are pretty solid. Woodruff's is right in Depot Town, across from the tattoo shop.

Are you looking for a certain date to get a gig booked there? Because I might be able to help out.

There was someone that was doing house shows a few years back. Can't remember the punk name for the house. Last show I know of there was Disco Assault, Nightbringer and State if anybody knows what I'm talking about.

Man, I always hated Muggs, but I'm glad it was a solid venue for a while. I saw some cool shows at the Elbow Room, but it was always such a dire place.

I wish some young punks would pull together something like we did with State Control. It was only around a year, but it was one of my favorite years. I've missed that space since the last show.

If State Control had been on floor level. Dragging gear upstairs sucked.
I considered trying to find one or two people to partner with and getting a loan to start selling records again with a retail/show space. I didn't feel it was solid enough to pull in Detroit.

The stairs were part of the charm!

there is a house that does shows called "the kill house" that always gets jam packed for every show. However, I don't know the contact info or who lives in that space.

Meat Mansion maybe? House shows come and go like mad in that town, but I did go to a couple before they got evicted.

You could try the "Playboy Mansion" on 605 N. Congress St.

I'm sure they have a Faceass page ...

Sounds like the Meat Mansion. I did sound for that show. We also had "Beer Can Garden" over on 7th Ave. This was all at the time that RAW crashed and burned. Sadly I do not know of any houses having punk/hardcore shows here in Ann Arbor.

Apparently there's an Ann Arbor house called The Third Death Star.
